Welcome

After more than three years in operation, Playa Escondida has acquired an extended family of guests and friends, such as yourselves, who we think may like to stay closer in touch with their memorable experiences here.

For you, we have started this blog. We'll keep you informed of changes and try to give you some insight into what's going on here.

Chris and Becky's visit

Chris is the photographer-designer behind The Wave Magazine in San Jose, California. He did a great shoot for us at Playa Escondida a year and a half ago and returned for a vacation with his wife this month. Thanks, Chris for the video.

Take us home

Playa Escondida is not just a place to visit, it is an experience to live and be part of, to take home with you. Playa Escondida is that magical place where you can retreat every time you need to reconnect with nature and your own inner self.

Every time you come here you'll go back with something different, perhaps another feeling or insight, certainly sound rest and a re-awakening of your senses (flood your eyes with tropical colors, smell the lush jungle, taste exquisite food and feel so good with relaxing massages.)

You'll also take home an at-rest perspective of your life to help you stay connected with your essence even when you're immersed again in the hectic illusion which is your daily reality.

Ready for a change?

Want to disconnect from ordinary life and enjoy a closer-to-nature experience? Are you ready to turn off the noise of the city and tune in to the sounds of nature? For those who value the experience of being immersed in nature, wedged between the ocean and the jungle hillside, breathing fresh sea breeze, surrounded by life in a creative environment, admiring the sun setting on the sea, lifting your head to marvel at the stars and immensity of it all, Playa Escondida is your kind of place- to enjoy the essence of things without the constant distractions of modern life.

Why so "Escondida"?

We, like you, enjoy our privacy and we want to keep alive the magic which makes the Playa Escondida (hidden beach) experience so special for our guests. We don't invite the general public, except through our website. It acts as a filter to discourage those who are better suited to conventional or all-inclusive resorts. We realize we are not for everyone. We believe that those who are "meant" to be part of this experience will find us on their own or through a network of friends which will link them to those who already appreciate our unique experience.

The beginning- finding Playa Escondida

More than 15 years ago Playa Escondida was for us a perfect hideaway: secluded, private beach, difficult to find, off-the-beaten-path from an off-the-beaten-path fishing village called Sayulita, which a handful of surfers had discovered and didn’t want to publicize. After several years of enjoying solitude and disconnection from the madness of the “civilized” world the inevitable happened and Sayulita lost its anonymity, bringing madness closer by.

Nevertheless, Playa Escondida has attempted to preserve its privacy. It is still unlikely that someone in town can tell you how to get here. There are no signs pointing the way. Indeed, as in zen enlightenment or true love, you’re not even sure you’ve found us until you’ve actually arrived.
